Welcome Counselors

Thank you for your continued support.  The Learn More Indiana staff appreciates your feedback and suggestions.  Please continue to send your comments and recommendations to info@learnmore.org.

Learn More Indiana values the work you do to support students.  As a statewide communication effort to help raise the educational attainment of Hoosiers, Learn More Indiana recognizes the significant role you play in ensuring students and families have the information and support they need to continue their education.

Working together, we can help more students complete high school, go to college and earn a degree.

Earlier this year, Learn More Indiana mailed toolkits to those of you working in middle and high schools to assist you in your day-to-day work with students and families.  The following products and information was included in these toolkits:

Results of Indiana’s Annual Career and College Information Survey of Students for 2008-2009
Because of your efforts, more than 56,000 ninth graders and 45,000 eleventh graders completed the survey this year.  If you returned your completed surveys by Dec. 21, your school information will be included in the results.  The 2008-2009 survey results are currently available online.

Classroom and Guidance Lesson Plans
Teachers and school counselors across the state are finding great ways to use the Student Success Mini-Magazines and NEXT Indiana magazines in the classroom.  Indiana school counselors have created some hands-on activities for each of the mini-magazines to reinforce the messages carried in these publications.  The lesson plans for the 9th to 12th grade publications (to PDF of them) were included in the mailing.  Additional lesson plans  for other activities mapped to Gold Star) are available online.

KnowHow2GOIndiana Campaign and Free Materials
Learn More Indiana is leading a statewide campaign to help students know the steps to get to college.  KnowHow2GOIndiana is part of a national effort sponsored by the Lumina Foundation for Education, the Ad Council and the American Council on Education.  The campaign consists of PSAs, posters, publications and partnership building.

KnowHow2GO Messages are targeted at students in grades 8 to 10 to encourage them to start preparing for college now.  The campaign pushes the message that “college doesn’t just happen – there are actual steps you need to take.”   Those steps are:

1.     Be a Pain (in a good way) and find a caring adult.
      2.     Push Yourself
      3.     Find the Right Fit
      4.     Put Your Hands on Some Cash

KnowHow2GOIndiana can help you do what you do everyday.  By using the same language to help explain the steps to college, we can help students and families understand that college is possible and ensure that they stay on track to get there.  You can order free KnowHow2GOIndiana materials on the Learn More Indiana order form or by calling 1-800-992-2076.

Student/Parent PowerPoint Presentation – We’ve pulled it all together to make it easy for you to use the four steps to spell out what students need to do – including Core 40, Indiana e-Transcript and more.  The presentation is aligned with the Student Success Mini-Magazines and other Indiana supporting materials.  Download it today.

Indiana’s College Success Coalition
As part of the KnowHow2GOIndiana effort, Learn More Indiana, in partnership with the Twenty-first Century Scholars GEAR UP program, is leading an effort to build a statewide college access and success coalition to rally and connect organizations and individuals to help more students get to and complete college.  Coalition efforts have a particular focus on reaching and supporting low-income and first generation college students in Indiana—students who are or could be Twenty-first Century Scholars.  Sign up today and join the collation.

Indiana Career Guide 2007
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development produced an Indiana Career Guide to assist counselors in sharing current career trends with your students, and one was included in the toolkit.  This publication was produced to provide information about job opportunities, employment prospects and educational requirements for various career paths.  Additional copies aren’t available at this time.  For more information, please call IDWD at (317) 234-4347.

11th and 12th Grade Posters
To help students stay on track through high school, we included ‘How to Get to College’ posters.  They are also pullouts in this year’s NEXT Indiana: A Guide to Life After High School.  We are able to provide schools and community groups with a free and easy way to get the message out about what juniors and seniors need to do to stay on track for college.  You can order these posters on the Learn More Indiana order form or by calling 1-800-992-2076.

Learn More Indiana Materials
Learn More Indiana materials were included in the mailing and you can order these free materials from our order form or by calling 1-800-992-2076.
