OnTrack and the Graduation Plan for the 2009-2010 school year was shipped to all Indiana public and accredited private schools by August 14, 2009.
Shipment amounts were based on data submitted to the Indiana Department of Education: Quantities were based on last year's enrollment figures plus a 20-percent overage.
The publications are also available below for download.
No teacher editions were printed for distribution in 2009-2010. More information on Indiana's Academic Standards is available from the Indiana Department of Education.
OnTrack Student Success Mini-Magazines
The state’s well-received Student Success Mini-Magazines return this year and can be downloaded below. This year a printed Spanish edition for Limited English Proficient students in grades 3, 4 and 5 and grades 6, 7 and 8 is also available. (Online versions are available for the other grades.)
These grade-specific, easy-to-read publications address a variety of key topics related to student achievement: academic standards, ISTEP+, Core 40, career exploration, planning and preparing for college, study strategies, tips for parents, and more.
Lesson plans are now available! Teachers and school counselors across the state are finding great ways to use OnTrack in the classroom. For example, Indiana school counselors have created some hands-on activities to reinforce the messages carried in the publications. The Classroom and Guidance Lesson Plans are for teachers or school counselors and are also connected to Indiana’s Student Standards for Guidance.
OnTrack was expanded this year to serve students in 11th grade and 12th grade. NEXT Indiana: A Guide To Life After High School, which has been the publication in previous years for 11th and 12th grade students, is still being done and will arrive at high schools in September as part of the toolkits for College Go! Week. During College Go! Week (Monday, Oct. 12 through Friday, Oct. 16), the Indiana Commission for Higher Education will be asking every Indiana high school to set aside time to focus on college and career preparation. Toolkits for this initiative will be sent to school counselors in early September.
Graduation Plan
State law mandates students complete various career and course planning requirements starting in 6th grade, and utilization of the Graduation Plan will fulfill those expectations.
All Indiana students are required to develop initial graduation plans with their parents or guardians by the end of 6th grade. The plans are then considered part of students’ permanent records. (Modifications to the plans can still be made later on.) To simplify this part of the requirement, the 6th grade Graduation Plan has been incorporated into OnTrack: 6th Grade and can be found on pages 11 and 12. (The plan for 6th grade students was in a folder format last year; however, based on feedback from school counselors, this simplified approach is being used this year.)
School counselors are required to further develop the graduation plans—with the students and parents—by the end of 9th grade (but preferably in 8th grade) and then annually review them with the students. To assist with this step, a Graduation Plan for 8th and 9th grade students (in the traditional folder format) is being shipped to schools, and a PDF is below.
Additional formats (including those with editable fields) are also available with planning worksheets and grade-specific inserts.
