High School Diploma Requirements

The Indiana State Board of Education has adopted new course and credit requirements for earning a high school diploma. These new requirements go into effect for students entering high school in fall 2006.

Career, Technical Education

Career and technical education courses help students explore their interests and career possibilities, and prepare for a career of interest.

Indiana Core 40

By providing all Indiana students a balanced sequence of academically rigorous high school courses in the core subjects of English/language arts, mathematics, science and social studies; physical education/health and wellness; and electives including world languages, career/technical, and fine arts, the Core 40 requirement gives students the opportunity to compete with the best.

Academic Standards

Academic standards ensure that students are receiving a quality education that will prepare them to succeed in the higher education option of their choice - and in today's competitive job market.

The Indiana Reading List contains great age-appropriate books for you and your student to read together. They were picked with Indiana’s Academic Standards in English/Language Arts in mind, so reading them at home helps reinforce learning from school.

GED

The GED program has become a significant means for adults to acquire a high school equivalency diploma. GED Tests cover language arts reading and writing skills, social studies, science, and mathematics.
